Clear your browser cache and cookies

A website won't load properly, keeps signing you out or shows old content. Clearing cached files and cookies usually fixes it.

Last verified October 3, 2026

Browsers store copies of websites (cache) and sign-in data (cookies) to load faster. When those copies go stale, sites break in strange ways.

Symptoms

  • A web app shows an old version, or buttons don’t work.
  • A sign-in loops back to the sign-in page.
  • One website misbehaves while others are fine.

Cause

Outdated cached files or corrupted cookies for that website.

Fix

1. Try a private window first

Press Ctrl + Shift + N. If the site works there, cached data is the problem.

2. Clear cache and cookies (Edge and Chrome)

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete.
  2. Set Time range to All time.
  3. Tick Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files. Leave Passwords unticked.
  4. Select Clear now (Edge) or Delete data (Chrome).
  5. Close every browser window and open the site again.

Clearing cookies signs you out of most websites, so you’ll need to sign in again.

3. Clear one site only

To avoid signing out everywhere, select the lock icon to the left of the web address, then Cookies and site data (Edge) or Site settings › Delete data (Chrome).

If that didn’t work

  • Turn off browser extensions one at a time (Settings › Extensions). Ad-blockers often break business web apps.
  • Try a different browser to rule out the browser itself.

When to call us

  • A line-of-business web app fails for everyone, not just you.
  • Your browser opens pages you didn’t ask for, or keeps showing pop-ups. That can be unwanted software.
